Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)
Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is a surgical treatment for early stage bladder cancer. If the tumor is small and has not progressed into the deeper layers to the bladder wall, TURBT may be recommended.
A wire loop is passed through the urethra into the bladder and is used to remove the cancerous tissue using either electric current or laser energy.
Patients may experience minimal side effects such as blood in the urine and irritative voiding symptoms for a few days after undergoing the procedure.
