Pyeloplasty

Pyeloplasty is the surgical reconstruction of the renal pelvis of the kidney to remove a blockage between the kidney and ureter. These blockages, also called uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstructions, are often a congenital problem in babies and children, but can occur in adults as well.

During pyeloplasty, the surgeon removes the abnormal section of the ureter and reattaches a healthy portion of theureter tube to a healthy portion of the renal pelvis.

Pyeloplasty can be performed as an open surgery, laparoscopically, or with minimally-invasive robotic sugery.
