Benign Kidney Disorders
Polycystic kidney disease is a hereditary disorder in which clusters of cysts grow on the kidneys and elsewhere. It causes many health problems, including high blood pressure, that must be managed throughout a person’s life.
Glomerulonephritis is an inflammation of part of the kidney that impairs its ability to filter urine. It can be hereditary or brought on by systemic diseases or strep infections. Nephrotic syndrome causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine. It causes swelling in the feet and can lead to other health problems. Kidney infection occurs when the bacteria from a urinary tract infection travels up to the kidneys. This is very dangerous as the infection can then spread throughout the body. Kidney and urinary tract infections are treated with antibiotics.
