Elevated PSA

A PSA test is performed in order to assess a man’s likelihood of having prostate cancer. There is no specific level of PSA considered “normal” or “abnormal,” but if your doctor decides that your PSA level is high, he/she may perform a digital rectal exam or order a prostate biopsy to rule out prostate cancer.

Elevated PSA levels do not necessarily indicate prostate cancer. They can also be a sign of benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) or inflammation in the urinary tract.
