Surgical treatment for prolapsed bladder,is also refered to as a cystocele repair. Sometimes the muscles of the pelvis are unable to fully support the bladder, and it begins to sag or prolapse into the vagina.
A very successful and minimally invasive method of treatment is to surgically place a mesh support under the bladder. The body’s tissues grow into the mesh, holding it in place tension-free. The mesh graft is introduced during surgery through an incision in the vagina. Once the mesh is in place, the incision is closed. The mesh can be synthetic or biologic, and can be customized in size.
This less-invasive surgery is done in the hospital under general anesthesia. Patients may require an overnight stay and a temporary catheter to remove urine.
